Name?

[edit]

Some other Wikipedia articles credit "Namperumal Chetty" as a builder for some Chennai buildings, including some listed here. I inferred that this is an alternate rendering of the spelling, so I redirected Namperumal Chetty here. Am I correct, or are these two different people? --Orlady (talk) 15:35, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is an alternate rendering (in Tamil they have the same letters) and i believe both spellings refer to the same person.--Sodabottle (talk) 05:31, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, in Tamil, the vernacular of Chennai, the alphabet for the sound Pa (ப) is also used for ba. "Namperumal Chetty" might be the way his name is actually spelt, but "Namberumal" is the spelling more often used (Both Madras Rediscovered by S. Muthiah as well as Southern India spell his name as "Namberumal Chetty").-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service
